I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while, but some of our users on the site start with upper case (eg. Fuzz, Hashy, Johnny etc.) while others start with lower case (chipper, ltmon, n0mad, robag etc). Generally this was chosen to match your in game name at the time. However I’ve noticed some of you go by both now. I know ltmon used to use lower case in ET:W but uses upper for QW.

Anyway, it should be a fairly simple change on the admin end to change it. So if anyone wants to change theirs from lower to upper, or vice versa, just comment here and I’ll make the change.

What will n0mad do? Will he change to lower case to get the free Svalbards, but while doing so give up his signature lower case n0… What to do :)

After many months of searching for a place to buy, I’ve finally found it and the time has come to move. So I’ll be offline out of work hours for the next few weeks with packing and moving. Please help the new guys settle in, and good luck with the scrim against MaD Blue next week.

Since the beginning of time I’ve used a CRT monitor, and for the last few years it’s been a 21” Sony trinitron CRT. It does a great res (2048×1536, or 1600×1200 as its optimal res) so I’m used to a fairly high res and get a little antsy when I don’t have heaps of screen real estate.

Well, the 21” CRT is to put it nicely past it’s best so I’m on the market for a new monitor. I’m well aware of the advantages of CRTs for gaming, but not many of them are made these days and I don’t think I’d trust buying one off ebay that was probably made as long ago as mine.

So it will be an LCD, but hopefully one that’s suited to gaming. I’d love to hear what everyones using for a monitor on their gaming PC’s and how they find it. Any advantages / disadvantages of one brand over another. Anything specific you would say to get or not to get. Pretty much anything to do with LCD’s, gaming and general usage, I’d be interested in hearing.

This weeks prac against tW will be on etqwpro 0.55b mod. This was only just released earlier this month so it’s unlikely anyone has it yet. Please make sure you have installed it and checked it works before tomorrows prac. As usual, attendance is marked on the practice page, not here.

Installation instructions – haven’t installed it yet, but assume it’s the same as the last version. Extract into the directory where your mods go (for me it’s My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory – Quake Wars\etqwpro).

We’re using pro this week as tW have a prac against #S’ coming up on pro, but it will be good practice for us too.

Great news: The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars 1.5 game update is currently headed straight for the tubes of the internet! We’re planning to push the the Windows and Linux versions along with the upated SDK this evening London time, while the folks at Aspyr are currently putting the finishing touches on the Mac version. If you want to read up on the changes and improvements included in 1.5, you can do so by way of this blog update. To round out the impending file assault, we’ll also have the final version of the Official Competition Mod available within the coming days.
As soon as the 1.5 update is ready for download, we’ll publish a list of mirrors here on the ETQW Community Site, so keep checking back!

With daylight savings time finishing in NSW this weekend, this is as good of a time as any to mention that you can set your time zone by clicking the “My Account” link on the left sidebar, clicking “Edit” and choosing the timezone that’s relevent to you. It defaults to +10h which is right most of the time in NSW, but for everyone in another timezone, or even for daylight savings time you need to change it there.

Blood, n0mad, Dementia and Pinge are the only people I know for sure are out of this timezone and have probably been putting up with Sydney’s time zone for too long now.

It’s also a good time to say if we’re going to specify times for things like challenges, always specify the timezone afterwards, eg. Tuesday 8:30PM EST. Blood’s getting good at interpreting the times, but being specific makes it easier :)

Hey all,

I’ll be taking the site offline from 4pm to 6pm tonight to install security fixes and upgrade some modules. Some users will probably still be able to access the site during this period, but please don’t. I’ll post here when everything is upgraded.

Sha8doW and Oz will be doing some testing this evening to ensure the upgrades went smoothly, but if anyone else notices something broke, please comment here.

Only a matter of hours after our intense battle against Di we received a challenge from our good friends Damage Incorporated. After a week of organising the last game I’m gonna pass on taking that roll for this round (not to say I wouldn’t play).

So we need a captain / organiser to take control of this match, create a challenge page, decide out of the 3 times and maps available (or if we have enough players available), accept / decline the challenge, organise a practice match, and captain the actual match. (All the usual stuff). I’ve PM’d and sms’d a few of the captains, but normally I won’t do that since all the captains get the email to notify us of the challenge. Thought I’d write this post this time to make sure everyones, not only captains are aware there’s a challenge. Also if anyone isn’t a captain but would like to captain this match, let me know and I’ll give you captain privs.

If no-ones up for captaining / organising I’ll just decline the match tomorrow morning to avoid a forfeit and possible disqualification (8:50AM Friday is the deadline). Same will apply for future challenges – if I don’t captain it myself, and no-one else takes it on, if I remember and am around at the deadline to do it, I’ll just decline the matches
